The Professional Medical Coding Curriculum has been created by the American Academy of Professional Coders because of a growing need for coding information and education in the increasingly technical field of professional coding. It is recognized as highly credible and is taught and accredited throughout the country in various venues, Colleges and Universities. This program may also assist students wishing to obtain certification (optional) in coding by further prepping for the national (CPC) Certified Professional Coder credential exam. It's not just another typical certificate program.
Medicare audits and insurance reimbursement policies have contributed to a growing awareness of the importance of accurate coding. With the increasing costs in fraud and abuse prevention and the decline in healthcare reimbursement by both federal and commercial carriers, correct coding knowledge is absolutely essential for practice and hospital survival. A Certified Professional Coder and Instructor who is licensed with the Academy will teach this course. The course curriculum is presented in 20 lessons. The lessons include a brief anatomy and terminology review, CPT, HCPC’s Level II and ICD-10 CM coding / lab scenarios, to ensure knowledge in practical application. Students will receive a certificate of completion for approximately 80 contact hours.
